To ensure that customers receive the food ingredients they require on time, of the desired quality and price, involves many people and substantial resources.
Scalzo Food Industries has gained extensive experience in managing the supply chain and has earned an excellent track record, on which our success is based.
Every day, our people with specialised skills work together as teams with suppliers, carriers and most importantly our customers.
The Scalzo Technical Department provides technical expertise relating to all the activities of the company, from ingredient supply to world class manufacturing and versatile distribution.
ISO certification for the entire business and HACCP accreditation for the manufacturing and distribution sites with a strong focus on regulatory compliance and customer service are features of the operation.
An effective vendor assurance program and considerable expertise of material handling also allows for significant partnering opportunities with customers on technical matters.
Our BRC accreditation received in 2007 highlights our ongoing commitment to quality.
Our systems are well developed, fully integrated and are under continual development by our in-house programming team. This ensures that we are in a position to respond to both ours and our customers' increasingly complex business and information requirements.
Our product management team are the link between our customers' needs and our suppliers' capabilities. Quality sourcing relies on strong, long-term relationships we have built with key suppliers over the years.
Product Managers work their portfolio of suppliers to provide the best available ingredients in line with our customer's requirements. Strategic planning and relationship building combine with product and process knowledge and global market trends making our product managers a critical part of the ingredient sourcing procedure.
Our approach has a strong component of quality and risk management to ensure the expectations of our customers are understood by all our suppliers.
Quality Management - what does it mean?
Managing the supply of natural agricultural products obviously means dealing with all the fluctuations of nature; crop failures, varying crop yields, crop quality, infestations and climatic impact.
With realistic expectations, we have a commitment to maximise the quality and consistency of the products we source and the service we provide to our customers. We seek to do this by understanding our suppliers resources and their ability to manage quality responsibility. We also aim to understand the quality needs, within the price constraints, our customers require.
Supply Chain Management
Scalzo prides itself on the efficiency and effectiveness of its domestic and international supply chains in providing the best possible service and value to customers. In many cases we have developed customer specific supply chains to ensure optimum value in terms of timing, quality and, of course, cost.
To assist in achieving our business objectives we have a well-developed national food distribution network with:
- Branch Sales Offices and Warehouses in Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Auckland, supported by our Melbourne Head Office and our latest distribution centre.
- Support Warehouses in Adelaide and Albury.
We also provide logistics services, on an outsourced / shared services basis, to a number of customers who have a complimentary product and customer base. This has proven to be mutually beneficial and we welcome further opportunities in this area.
Our Shipping Team work with our Product Managers and suppliers to coordinate all import (and export) consignments from point of origin to point of destination. This includes the management of documentation, vessel tracking, quarantine, security, and container return matters. That is, ensuring that we have robust lines of supply that are managed to meet what is increasingly becoming Just in Time requirements.
We are also active industry representatives working with government representatives influencing the future direction of AQIS and FSANZ policies.
Scalzo has largely built its business on service excellence and delivering on its promises.
As such, we have customer service staff in each sales office location dedicated to ensuring we deliver on commitments made to our customers. This starts with understanding each and every customer's unique requirements and then disseminating this knowledge throughout our organisation, as appropriate, using the tools available in our computer system.
Under our continuous improvement approach, quality and delivery performances are measured on a daily basis and results are regularly shared with our customers during business reviews, or compared to our customers' own records, as communicated to us. This internal and external feedback provides the basis for improving our service levels even further.
All locations have been selected on the basis of proximity to the most appropriate logistics infrastructure; be it port, railhead, or road infrastructure and of course HACCP and food safety requirements.
Our main warehouse facility is located in Melbourne. This resource supports our branch network, through the provision of products that are not normally stocked at that particular location, as well as being the staging and distribution point for all our manufactured products.
We have a well-established and extensive distribution network to support our customers' requirements both domestically and internationally.
Customer delivery requirements are managed by our branch customer service teams via our integrated computer system and captive / contracted transport service partners.
